OUTER BANKS FISHING REPORTS - 2022

One of the best ways to tell what we usually catch during a particular season is to go back through our previous year's fishing reports!

Tropical storms and sketchy economy have our fishing trips slowed down recently, so I thought I’d make a “fishing report” from the home front. I helped this same farming family some 40 years ago with their dad Tom, now with his son Andy. You never know where/what life is going take you. Pretty surreal to be in the very spot doing what I did as a much younger man. My experience has taught me to never be afraid of work, “dig in and growl” and it’ll work out. So many things have changed over the years, but the smell of soil, crops, machines hasn’t. Work is good for the mind and soul, sitting idle is a very hard thing for me. Very thankful to have the opportunity to do something as meaningful as it was 40 years ago. We are still fishing and will be posting fishing reports when we fish. After the phenomenal amount of tunas we had this past spring/early summer season, I can’t help but look forward to some killer fishing this fall season. Give us a shout if you’re ready for some Fall fishing! Take care y’all, gotta get back at it! Let’s go fishing!

We had Joe, Gina & Nicholas Sigerich from Salem VA with us today. These folks have fished with us in the past and we were happy to have them onboard again today. The fishing was pretty steady with the spanish mackerel and the nice sized “tiger” bluefish in the Sound on this breezy NE day. The temperature took a welcome drop and it was flat out comfortable! Thank you folks for coming out with us again, enjoy the fresh fillets!

We had Kyle, Austin, Easton & Christian Lingo, Jesse Streets and Tommy Franco from NE Ohio with us today. We kept these fellas busy today with a variety of fish. We had a few mahi, a few yellowfin tuna, a few skipjack tunas, a few albacore and a gracious plenty of small blackfin tuna. The older fellas were plenty good company, but the three young men were a bonus for us today. We had the whole wildlife experience from a seemingly lost Osprey, two tone porpoise, more pilot whales than we could possibly count and one particularly large shark that was released. Thank you for fishing with us and we hope you enjoy the fresh fish from your day with us!

We had a very nice bunch of folks from Michigan with us for a “Soundside” half day trip this morning. We had Jack, Jack, Jack & Barb Schinderle, My & Theo Vu for our crew. The bites started with the first line in the water and worked out pretty steady throughout the trip. Plenty of good eating and a good morning too boot! Thank you folks for spending the morning with us, please do enjoy the fish and the rest of your stay here in the OBX!

We had Dave Bezick from Pennsylvania and John Ammatelli from Kansas City with us for a beautiful day on the ocean. We were looking for some wahoo and found these albacore and a barracuda. We worked several current edges and finally found some mahi that were willing to go home with us! We ended up putting together a catch of fish to be enjoyed at the dinner table. Thank you guys for spending the day out there with us again.

We had Tommy, Tori and Jay Arrowood from MD and WV with us today. Mr Tommy caught a wahoo and Miss Tori caught a blackfin tuna, on both of their “first days offshore”. Mr Jay has fished with us in the past and today wasn’t nearly as busy as his previous trip, but we did make these two bites count! It was a slow day for us, but the ocean couldn’t have been prettier. Please do enjoy the fresh fillets during your visit here on the OBX.

We had Wesley Brewer from Trinity Tx and Winston Woodall from Tulsa Ok, with us for a beautiful day on the ocean. Wesley booked his trip sometime back and each time we talked on the phone “billfish” was gonna be talked about. Well today the wishing and hoping came to fruition, we had two bites and caught two nice sailfish for release! Winston got the first bite and fish, then just a few minutes after getting our spread back out Wesley’s fish came in bit and was released. Unicorn fishing at it’s finest for us this morning, you never know how a day is gonna turn out. To say these guys were stoked would be a huge understatement, it was our pleasure just to be there with them. Fella’s enjoy the rest of your stay here on the OBX and safe travels back home. Come see us again!

We had Andrew, Joe, Jacob, Jason & Chase Fridley and Dillion Wade with us for a family group this morning. Was pretty good spanish mackerel fishing for us with a really laid back fun crew from Virginia. We had a USCG C-130 hanging out logging in some flight time with us out there. Always good to know they are there in time of need Semper Paratus! Hope you guys enjoy the fresh fish and your time left here on the Outer Banks.

We had Steve & Garrett Rogers, Brandon & Carter Ano, Curtis Jones and Hunter Penoyer all from NY with us today. Beautiful ocean today and we caught a few target species wahoo. We also caught a barracuda and an albacore, that gave us a little extra action. The wahoo fishing has been very good the last few days, but we found only one small area that gave us some quick bites. Good guys that did well getting our fish in today. Y’all have some great eating fish to carry home! Thank you for fishing with us today.

We had a family group from Clover SC with us today. We had Jack & Fran Mounts and Frankie & Wilma Bradham. Yellowfin tuna was what we were hoping to get at least one of, but it wasn’t meant to be. The rain/wind that was forecast to “push on off” ended up making for a wet/miserable day I’m afraid. We ended up with one nice wahoo before calling it off a bit early. We enjoyed the company of these folks. Wahoo is the best eating in the ocean in my opinion. Hope you enjoy those steaks.

We had Jake Bouman, Daniel Reese, Bobby & Mallory Warner from Ohio and Virginia with us this morning. We started with a slow spanish mackerel bite but switched over to ribbonfish trying to get some fish in the box. We had pretty good fishing and these folks have got some fresh fish to eat. Thank you for fishing with us again Jake, hope to see you next time your on the OBX.

We had a surprise birthday fishing trip group from Seattle today. We had Andrey & Ilya Stantsiyer, David & Mark Kukosh on a beautiful offshore day. We started out trying to catch a wahoo but had no action at all. We picked up and headed to a different area and right as we were slowing back down a blue marlin jumped right across our bow! We set out and caught a mahi, a skipjack and a couple yellowfin tunas. We saw a lot of fish but only had a few bites, but made them count. These fellas obviously are serious about fishing and we enjoyed their company. We hope to see you back on the Outer Banks again.

We had a father and sons group this morning with us in the Sound. We had Jason Barton Sr & Jason Barton Jr, Jeff & Ozzy Shore from Syracuse NY. Again the weather kept us in the calmer Sound waters, but we found some fish and our guys had some family fun together. Enjoyed having y’all onboard this morning.

We had a half day inshore charter trip with Mike, Mike, Mike (yep 3 Mikes), Sam & Kathy Willauer from PA and NC. We ended up fishing in the Sound because of the rough conditions, but we still found some fish and family fun catching them. Thank you folks for fishing with us today.

We had Robert Hoshyla, Joe Hren lll and Joe Hren lab and Dylan Temple from Hampton Bays NY with us on this beautiful Sunday morning offshore. We had a triple and then a single bite that we made good on, early on. We lost a very nice wahoo at the back of the boat and caught a last minute mahi. Great group of guys that we hope will come back again. Enjoy those fresh tuna loins, safe travels back home.

We had Chris, Sara and Abby Ware, Travis, Shannon and Brinlie Greco all from Buffalo NY with us for a pretty Thursday morning fishing. The past overnight storms really cooled our water down outside the Inlet so we picked up and ran a good ways down South and found some warmer water. We found a lot of birds and schools of albacore and spanish mackerel, we picked a out a catch and enjoyed some action. Thank you folks for fishing with us today. These youngsters were a pleasure, getting excited with each bite. Mason spent some time up on the flybridge with me and for sure knows what fish look like in the fish finder screen. One thing you can always count on with the ocean, it changes constantly. It’s always amazed me the difference good or bad a few hours makes out there. Today we had a pretty productive day from start to finish. We had Kurt and Sarah Wilson from FL, Jarred Lamb and Jessica Damman from OH with us today. A beautiful day from beginning to end for us. We had Bob and Aileen Sager, Doug and Judi Deaton, Katrina and Scott Zenn from Virginia and Wisconsin with us today. It was not only rough, but the fish weren’t very willing with us today. We had only two bites from a couple king mackerel and one came back in with us. Certainly wasn’t an eventful day for us, but our folks stuck it out longer than many would have. Days like today will humble you quickly, just what the ocean does to us all. Thank you folks for heading out with us today.

We had a first time of folks with us this morning. We had Charlee Kerr, Erin Kerr, Gessika Bennett, Chelsea Wurster, Megan and Jose Zambrano with us. We started out catching some ribbon fish and then moved a bit to try for something a little different. We found a really nice sized spanish mackerel and an albacore before it was time to head in. We had a nice group of fellas from Maryland with us today. We had Chris, Tyler, Joshua and Noah Persing, Eddie Frias and Robert Gay. We stayed just a few miles North of a pretty impressive storm line that made up this morning, but Holy Smokes at the grass we had to shag today! We had one nice yellowfin bite, we got it and a lone mahi. Pretty much shaggin’ grass after that, we picked up twice and steamed just to try and find some cleaner water to fish in. We ended up with some quick action towards the end of our day with some blackfin tunas and a Hail Mary mahi bite. We got what we asked for in the end, really can’t complain. Thank you guys for spending the day with us, enjoy that fresh fish and please do come back again.

We had Shane, Sherry, Lucien and Oliver Stenehjem family from Massachusetts with us today. It honestly turned out to be a much rougher/windier day than I was expecting today. We had a decent run out and the hot offshore water was much calmer than the shallower water we had come through heading out, but that didn’t last for long. We ended up hooking three nice yellowfin tunas today and they all made it aboard for the ride back home with us. Have to tip my hat to this family, they stuck it out and have some very fresh tuna to show for their effort. Thank you folks for coming out with us again this year, hope you enjoy the rest of your time here on the OBX.

Pretty special day for me personally on the Wild Card. It seems we all have those “special” folks in our life from days gone by. We’ve threatened to get together and by God it happened. I had a chance to lay eyes on a very special cousin/her husband/her son/her daughter and grandson, plus a distant relative from so many years ago! There comes a time when money doesn’t even matter, this was a better morning than I could have ever expected. So very happy to have you folks aboard this morning, top shelf day in my book. We had a family group with us on this windy afternoon for a near shore charter fishing trip. We had Paul, Julian and Sebastian Jameson, Jonathon and Hayley Madina from Va and Mass with us. I can’t help but get excited when youngsters like this get excited about catching some fish. It was a challenging afternoon with the wind but these kids had a good time and that’s what it’s all about. I hope you guys have safe travels back home and hope you enjoy a good fish fry!

We had a Father/Daughter trip with Bill and Natalie Gerlach from Allentown, PA and Baton Rogue, LA. It was one of those days the weatherman was right “Windy”! We did manage to stay busy with enough bites to keep us on our toes. While we were hoping for a little bit further off the beach trip, today wasn’t meant to be that day. Nice folks and a good time, plenty good. We hope to see y’all again.

We ran an offshore/variety fishing trip with Kevin Smith and Jeff Lynch from Northern Va. Today was a beautiful day with a little bit less offshore current that allowed for some decent blue line tile fishing. We had four other species that made it a true variety type day. Beautiful weather helped today for sure. Thank you fella’s for spending the day with us, certainly hope to see you again. Enjoy the fresh seafood!

We had an offshore charter fishing trip with a group of friends and family of “The Groom”! We had Stuart, Paul and Chris Fitzsimmons, Zack Estep, Skylar and Tyler Wydermeir from Raleigh, NC with us. It was a slow day for sure, but we stayed out of the thunderstorms. We caught one undersized tuna and had two more small fish bites. We tried the bottom fishing that we pretty much were counting on, but we had a whirlpool for current. We did end up catching a couple of mahi and amberjack. All in all a slow day for us, but we did have a nice group of guys for our crew today and the weather was nice. Thank you for coming out with us today, wish you the best at the Wedding!

It’s been an inshore thing around here lately, ribbonfish, false albacore and even some moonfish. Not your typical catches from “days gone by” but we have learned to fish for what’s here and biting. I’ll admit the ribbonfish are something I never thought we’d be fishing for, but they sure do cook up nicely. We’re not able to catch/keep flounder much anymore and just about anything you can do with flounder the white/flaky meat of the ribbon fish will fit the bill. Look them up Ribbon/Cutlass Fish and see how they stack up in healthy good eating! We’ve had folks from NC, IL, MD and DC lately and we’ve been happy to have them. Thank you folks for spending your time with us inshore.

Yes we do that! We had Dan and Tony Hughes and Walt Rasinski from Md and Pa with us today. We started out in the deep with a lot of bird life and the fresh smell of bait fish slicks in the water, but we couldn’t buy a tuna bite. We ended up coming back west into the shallower water for some blue line tilefish, amberjacks, albacore and a surprise very shallow yellowfin tuna. Just goes to show ”it ain’t over till it’s over folks”! We ended up with a pretty fair catch of good eating fish considering the slow bite overall. Mr Dan spent a fair bit of time up on the flybridge today with me, I enjoyed the questions and company. I found myself excusing myself from conversation when I thought I saw a ripple of bait fish, scratch of fish on the color machine, pod of pilot whales popping up, etc…. Just because I’m yacking doesn’t mean my head isn’t in the game! Thank you for your patience with me Dan. Enjoyed our day with you guys, please do stop by anytime.

Had a pretty day with this group of friends from West Virginia today. We had Fonzi Taylor, Tony Thurston, Tony Thurston Jr, Adam Wolfe, John Davis and Rolando Vega. The one thing you can always count on with the ocean is that it changes constantly, meaning our conditions from yesterday were no longer there. We caught our single tuna pretty quickly and had another tuna come up and snatch a dangling bait from our starboard outrigger while we were getting the hooked one in the boat. I thought to myself “they’re willing” this morning only to not have another bite for at least a couple more hours. We did have a beautiful explosive bite that didn’t get a hook set. Our crew wanted to try something different so we went amberjack fishing to finish our day. We switched from heavy trolling gear to light tackle and these fellas caught some seriously hard pulling fish. Thank you guys for spending the day with us.

Kyle, Hayden & Dick Rhoades, Emmanuel & Mattias DaSilva made for a great crew today. Started out with a single tuna early on, then we got a bit of a work out later in the morning. We had two very good friends with us today to make up a two man group. We had Jon Bobel from the DC area and Nick Yaworsky from Greenville SC. Somehow we knew this was gonna be a day to remember. The fishing started painfully slow for us. First bite was a small lone mahi, second bite was a lone yellowfin and the third bite was a beautiful blue marlin with Jon in the chair. The fish hit and immediately started putting on an air show for us, yes it was exciting I have to admit! It seems Jon had never done this sort of thing before and it was a pretty cool tug of war. The fish ended up going around the boat and the mainline got caught on a rudder and broke before we could free it. We then kinda got our act together with a couple 3 and 4 banger bites. We got one keeper out of 4 bite, the 3 bite was all undersize throwbacks, another bite we pulled another out of, but the sharks had us dialed in pretty good. They would not allow any more hooked tunas to come home with us. These two guys went home with some pretty sore hands and arms, exactly what they came for! Please do come back and see us! It would be so nice to have the much reduced shark threat fishing we used to have here now, but those days are gone in the name of “fisheries mismanagement” (my opinion). It’s a shame to hear on the radio the number of lost great fish to the overwhelming shark population we now have.

We had a family group with us today from NJ, Va, NC and Pa. It was a drop dead gorgeous slick calm day out there today, but we had dreadfully slow tuna fishing for us. Started out right after daylight with this nice “citation size” 55 lb wahoo (my favorite fish in the ocean, by the way). The bait was on top of the water flipping, birds, bait down deep, I really thought it was gonna be an epic tuna day. But I was epically wrong! We got one very nice bigeye tuna bite that threw the hook a few minutes into the fight, ugh!!! We tried to bottom fish, no bites! But then we turned to some very hard pulling amberjacks that definitely saved the day and did they ever put our crew to the test with light spinning gear. It ended up being a busy end to the trip, that’s what we came for! Thank you for coming out with us today.

We had Jeff and Kim Phillips, Steve and Melissa Hill and Robert and Tina Curry all from Charleston West Virginia. I believe these three couples go somewhere together each year and chose to go with us this year. The tuna fishing started out with a couple quick bites then it slowed down to a “wait them out” kinda day. We did manage a few nice yellowfins that will no doubt make for some enjoyable eating. We had a family group from San Antonio Texas (Ryan, Lara and 4 year old Sloane Brock, Mary Margaret and Melissa McDonald) with us today and they were quite the determined bunch too. To say it was “sporty” out there today would be an understatement, it was “rough”! No complaints, they just wanted some tunas. We caught some fish and we lost some fish, but it was a memorable day for us. We had some nice fish that just simply didn’t make it to the boat, the weather was really working against us. This was a tough crew that didn’t quit and I respect that determination. Please do come back and see us.

It’s been 9 days since we’ve been offshore after the “big fish”, but we fish the kind of trips our customers call for. This family group of folks were from the South Boston area of Va. Nice folks and quite a bit of conversation up on the flybridge. The fishing wasn’t red hot, but it was a picture perfect weather day. Thank you folks for spending your time with us. It looks like we have a pretty solid run of offshore trips coming up in a few days. We’ll take what we get and be thankful for it. With the price of everything now, our customers are lucky to even to be able to afford a fishing trip. It’s affecting us all and we certainly appreciate everyone that fishes with us.

We had Andrew & Keaton Boor, London, LJ and Randy Atkinson from Virginia, for another family trip inshore. It was very slow fishing for us today, but we had some really nice folks that just wanted to enjoy the day. Thank you folks for fishing with us, hope to see y’all again.

We had a family group with us today. We had Scott, Tyler & Anna Pryor and John, Allen & Hunter Bell from West Virginia and Pennsylvania. It was Miss Anna’s 7th Birthday trip and she spent quite a while sitting up in the flybridge with me this morning. Both of these young Lady’s were extremely polite, well done Mom and Dad! Thank you folks for spending the morning with us.

AM - We had a busy morning half day trip with family/friends group. We had John & Tyler Huey from Glenwood Iowa, Troy Naab, Zeke Gardels both from Council Bluffs Iowa, Brad Kephart Yorktown Va and Will Stephens from Fort Lee Va. Getting out in the ocean wasn’t an option for us because of the storm swell, so we stayed in the Sound and had a pretty decent catch of spanish mackerel and bluefish. This was a fun group of guys. Thank you for fishing with us this morning.

PM - Another family/friends trip for this afternoon and we had a good time. We had Dale & Bret Timmermann, Adam & Logan Gerstner, Ben Mende and Connor Norrenberns all from Breese Illinois with us. We started out very slow catching compared to just an hour ago in the very spot. But that’s how it works sometimes. We did catch some bluefish and one spanish mackerel trolling, but we changed up to bottom fishing and the very tasty sea mullets were willing! We ended up with what I would consider a very nice number of fish with an awesome crew! Thank you guys for spending the afternoon with us, hope you enjoy the fresh fish.

We had a family/friends group with us today. We had Ron & Zach Morris, Dave & Allen Whittaker all from Va and WVa. The morning started off with two immediate bites that got the skunk out of the box with some tasty yellowfins. The tuna fishing slowed from there, it’s like that some days. We got the request to start fishing toward shore (seasickness is no joke) and we ended up catching albacore for the next several miles. They weren’t the planned target species, but the smiles/laughter and cranking did these guys good. All in all it was an enjoyable day for us. If you’ll notice there is an odd picture of our mate Jesse holding up an albacore by the tail, look closely. This this is the first foul hooked fish I’ve seen with out the skin being pierced. The hook perfectly wrapped the tail section of the fish, that answered the “odd bite” we had on this one probably will never see it again. We got a surprise photo session from Capt Rich on our way in the harbor, I don’t get to see the “old girl” from that angle much. Thank you guys for spending the day with us.

We had an extended family group from Pennsylvania today with us. We had Tom & James Smith, Don & Shelby Madden and Christian Mazzocchi on a beautiful day offshore. Today started out very promising with bites and very nice yellowfin tunas early, but the bite turned off for us. We saw plenty of tunas busting but no takers for us. Thank you for spending the day with us.

We had a hardy group of men with us today. We had Larry Napolitano from Newcastle Wyoming and three invited US Veterans he invited for the trip. We had Jason B, Tim C and John J all from NC. The day started and ended with a very calm ocean. We found a handful of willing yellowfin tunas and a bonus wahoo. To say today was enjoyable would be an understatement. It was good to see and spend ocean time will all of you today!

We had a very special family group from Northern Kentucky with us today and I think they all had a rabbits foot in their pockets! We had Steve and Aidan Danneels, Bob and Sierra Fish and brother Tony Fish out with us. What a drop dead gorgeous day offshore for us today. Beautiful calm ride out and back, we found a few yellowfin tunas and a nice school of red drum on the way in. Some days are clearly “just meant to be” and this obviously was one of those days in my eyes. These folks did an awesome job from start to finish and it was a pure pleasure to have them aboard. The fella with no shirt on doing “the worm” was Tony because he did the unthinkable bringing a banana on the boat (it’s an old fisherman’s superstition look it up). Thus he was banished to the aft deck shirtless and was required to do the anti banana dance, after throwing said banana overboard. Fantastic day for us on the Wild Card, thank you for spending the day with us!

We enjoyed a fun trip with Miss Theresa, the winner of this year's Spring Promo Trip, her granddaughter Kayla, son Scott and daughter-in-law Jacki from Washington and Elizabeth City NC with us this morning. The water was plenty dirty from our resent wind and hard rains, but we did catch a few spanish mackerel. We saw a pile of cobia but they weren’t buying what we were selling this morning for us. We saw at least 15 but had zero bites. These were some nice folks, Miss Theresa and Kayla spent some time up in the flybridge helping us spot the cobia. Hope to see y’all again.

  • May 23, 2022-AM Half Day

We had Daniel and Audra Sawka from Raleigh NC with us this morning on a half day near shore charter trip. Miss Audra wanted to catch a Cobia and she sure had a good time getting this one to the boat. It was a quick shot at a group of fish and we made good on the first cobia double of the year. Thank you folks for coming with us this morning, I hope you had as much fun catching them as I did watching y’all!

This was a very enjoyable offshore charter trip with the “Send Me Outdoors” crew. It started out beautiful, busy and ended as a great all around day for us with a nice catch of yellowfin tuna. All I can add is that “Our Veterans” have a solid place in my heart. Thank for allowing us to be a part of this day!

We had an enjoyable day with a group of friends from Petersburg Va today. We had Rick Freeman, Neal Smith and Maurice Johnson with us. We had a really good bite from the very start until mid-morning. We lost some fish that were hooked, had some hard boils at the baits and of course sharks had their way a couple times too. All in all it was a good day with repeat fishing customers. Hope you guys enjoy that fresh tuna!

We had a chance to get out with a make-up trip group today. We had Ryan Graham from Ca, Sam Barilla and Phil Castrine from Pa, Logan Desnoyers from NJ and Tom Stewart from Va with us. We got out early and started in what appeared to be a dessert of an ocean, the water looked good but we saw no life at all for most of the morning. We finally found a few mahi and I thought for sure it was gonna be a slam dunk, but the conditions changed rapidly and it just didn’t come together for us. We did end up finding a pile of albacore that made for some very fast fishing and a lot of cranking for our folks. We also caught a couple of king mackerel. It was one of those days that we had to play the hand dealt to us. I have to say that this was an enjoyable bunch of fellas, all loved fishing and it showed. Thank you guys for coming out with us.

We had a family group with us for a beautiful half day fishing trip today. While the catch was not big trophy fish, we had a big time. We had Wales Jr, Allison, Wales lll and Laura Christian, Ceaser Salazar and Lauren Torres with us. It was an enjoyable, low pressure trip that found many fish keeping us busy. We even had an unexpected drone flight!!! Thank you folks for fishing with us again, hope to see you back on the OBX.

We had a really great Family group with us today for an offshore charter and we were able to keep them busy! We had Scott, Shane, Jarod and Zach Pfaunmiller from Pa and soon to be Father in Law Tony Burger from Md. It was fishing at a pretty quick clip and these guys stepped up to keep things flowing. The sharks set in pretty hard too, exciting but costly fishing! We ended up with a final flurry catching fish to the last minute. These fellas did a really good job catching on to our style of fishing, making today a pure pleasure for us. Thank you for spending the day with us, hope you enjoy the rest of your time here on the OBX!

Today we ran our first offshore charter trip of the 2022 season with some nice gentleman from Kingsport, TN. We had Bill Goddard, Kenny Hughes and Jordan Mullins with us today. Fishing was pretty slow (with no tunas for us) until we found some very willing king mackerel. When we hit them right, it was some pretty fast fishing with several bites at once that made for some excitement! Thank you fella’s for starting this new season with us today. We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay here on the OBX and would enjoy your company again anytime.

Good Sunday Morning! I took a few quick pictures of what I am expecting to be our new “long term” Marina. I had a chance to attend my first “Captain’s” meeting there yesterday. A lot of years long familiar faces and a few new ones too, but all are fisherman my kinda folks.

This Marina is a “locally owned” business and still has what has always endeared me to Wanchese starting some 44 years ago. These are some of the last Down Home Outer Banks NC fishing roots left, hospitality comes natural. The marina has been going through complete renovation the last few years and it shows. A nice grill with a laid back atmosphere, plenty of convenient parking for our customers (we can even load you and your gear right behind the boat), the Landing Grill can fry up some of your fresh caught/cleaned fish right after your trip, new fish cleaning shack and ice house, etc. I see a lot of new great memories being made here.

I am still getting the winter project list done here in anticipation of this coming season. We are all feeling the pinch of prices going up on just about everything, BUT our focus is still going to be affordable Family Friendly fishing trips aboard the Wild Card. Thank you for following us and we hope to see you soon. God Bless, Capt Frank

Turning the page. Rather long, but informative post follows…. Well folks we’re creeping up on the end of January and thought it a good time to let y’all know we’re here still kicking. The pictures I posted are from last winter’s “spare” engine rebuild and our look from the port bow before she went back overboard ready for the 2021 season.

This 2022 winter has had me deep into some serious wood work that is one of the main structural members right in front of the cockpit. Just another one of the many big jobs that our customers will never see, BUT most importantly KNOW that her Captain/Owner is on the job!!! Most of the hard work really is never seen to the casual eye, but there is always “something else” to be done on a boat. When I say I know every nut and bolt on this rig it’s true, that’s where confidence (not cockiness) comes from.

I have news to share about Wild Card Charters moving to the newly renovated/rebuilt Wanchese Marina and Landing Grill. The Wanchese Marina is actually only a couple hundred yards or so across the Harbor from our previous dock. This is a completely “Blue Collar” Marina that will quickly make you feel “right at home”. The Landing Grill has a nice welcoming atmosphere AND you can actually have some of your catch cooked as a meal and served inside a clean air conditioned restaurant. The Grill is literally a few steps away from back of our boat! There is a Ships Store and a new fish cleaning shack (that can clean, fillet, bag and ice) your catch too!

I don’t do anything with a “short term” mindset, change comes very hard for me and my Wild Card Charters business. A lot of thought and heartache went into this decision for me personally. At the end of the day I believe it will prove itself to be the right one for our customers and us. You can still expect a clean, squared away boat and crew, ready to give 110% everyday! Anyone that knows your Captain can testify that “he doesn’t cut corners”. I am very proud of my previous mates as they learned from the “old school”, it’s quite a good feeling watching them grow.

We have a new young man named Jesse that came on deck toward the end of last year, he is very friendly, respectful, eager to work and learn. Like always there’s NEVER any fussing and arguing here, just alot of yes Sir’s and Ma’am’s. Captain Frank is still the Ol Veteran that will push you when need be, not allowing you to quit on your “Dream Fish”. We love what we do and watching it come together is priceless.

Wanchese Marina and Landing Grill, 4457 Mill Landing Road, Wanchese NC, 27981. Phone number 252-423-3157, 252-473-4247 Tell them “You’re looking for the Wild Card! It’s been a little bit since our last update, so here we go. Gonna be a lot of new “white” in the cockpit and up on the flybridge shortly. These are all the outside panels that can be removed so that progress can be made inside the shop regardless of the weather outside. All the sanding done and first of two coats of epoxy paint done. Quite a bit of work is getting done on the winter time project list. Takes a lot to make this “living the dream” job actually functional. Oh well, no one ever said it’s gonna be easy!

One more coat and the finish is a wrap. Then onto putting the polished brightwork and such. Ready to move onto the next project. Folks have been calling to get their 2022 dates squared away, extremely thankful for every call. I’ll be keeping in touch. Merry Christmas to each one of you, Capt Frank
