What is a Makeup Charter?

Makeup charter group

This type of charter has been called many different names over the years. I'm only guessing that they were originally called "makeup" charters in this area back when someone canceled a private trip reservation at the last minute and the marina tried to quickly put together a mixed group charter in order to save a lost day for the boat. Whether you call them makeup, group share, mixed group or even walk-on charters, they are a great way for small groups to put together a full six pack charter and enjoy a day offshore sportfishing.

Please note that until the date has been booked it will still be open for private charters so you may get bumped out. Also once your charter has been reserved and your credit card number taken it is a contract saying that you will show up for the charter at the designated departure time. For the protection to the other anglers, you are agreeing that your card will be charged even if you don't show up. If your trip is canceled due to weather or other issues before departure you must be at the boat to not be charged. If we don't have enough anglers the date remains open and we don't have enough anglers the captain may call and offer to run the charter if the remaining anglers agree to equally divide the remaining cost.

Signing Up for a makeup charter

  • Tell us the date(s) you will be available to join a makeup charter.
  • Tell us how many anglers you are going to have with you.
  • You can add your name and other anglers in your group to more than one date.
  • Once six anglers are signed up for a date the captain will contact each angler to get their payment information. The makeup charter date is not reserved until he has acquired all angler's payment information.
  • Once the charter is booked only the captain can cancel it.
  • For the protection of all anglers involved, "no shows" that aren't at the boat at the time of departure forfeit their payments.
  • When we arrive back at the dock all fish are taken to the marina's processors and divided equally among the anglers that want their share. The price of the processing is shared equally among the anglers that want a share.
  • Please bring a large cooler for your fish but leave it in your vehicle until we return.
  • Anglers should bring their own food, snacks and drinks in a small cooler.
  • We suggest that if you don't know whether or not you get seasick that you start taking Dramamine or other similar OTC anti-nausea medicines the night before your trip. Feel free to contact the Capt. Frank for tips on how to avoid getting seasick.
  • Signing up is easy. Just call Captain Frank (252-402-5800) to add your name to the makeup list dates that you might be available to join a share group.
